Privacy Policy

Last updated · October 5, 2026

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Appleseed Technologies LLC (operator of appleseedplanner.com and provider of Appleseed Pro) and its affiliate Appleseed Advisory, LLC (provider of the Investment Adviser Referral Service) (collectively, “Appleseed,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use appleseedplanner.com and the related financial-planning tools, account features, and paid Appleseed Pro features (collectively, the “Service”). It also explains the choices available to you. This Policy does not apply to third-party websites or services that have their own privacy policies.

2. Information We Collect

  • Account and authentication information: We may receive your email address, name or display name, authentication-provider identifier, and account and session information. If you use Google Sign-In, Google provides information needed to authenticate you. If you use a magic link, we use your email address to send the link and associate it with your plan.
  • Financial-plan information: We collect information you enter or generate while building a plan, such as age and household information, income, expenses, assets, liabilities, housing, healthcare, Social Security assumptions, tax assumptions, investment preferences, goals, scenarios, and projection results.
  • Linked financial-account information: If you choose to connect an account through Plaid, we may receive institution and account identifiers, institution and account names, account type and subtype, a masked account number, balances, currency, connection status, and investment-account information made available for the accounts you select. We also receive and store an access token that allows the Service to request updated information through Plaid. We do not receive or store the username and password you use to sign in to your financial institution.
  • Subscription and billing information: Stripe collects your payment-card and billing details through its hosted checkout. We may receive your Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, selected plan, billing interval, subscription and payment status, transaction dates, and related billing records. We do not directly receive or store your full payment-card number or card security code.
  • Usage, device, and attribution information: We and our analytics providers may collect your IP address, browser and device type, pages and features used, dates and times of use, referring page, marketing attribution information, diagnostic information, and interactions with the Service. We use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies for authentication, preferences, analytics, security, and attribution.
  • Communications and referral information: We collect information you send to support, feedback you provide, email preferences, and information you choose to submit when requesting an introduction to a third-party investment adviser or interacting with an affiliate offer.

3. Sources of Information

We collect information:

  • directly from you;
  • automatically from your browser or device;
  • from authentication providers such as Google and Firebase;
  • from Stripe when you purchase or manage Pro;
  • from Plaid and the financial institutions you choose to connect;
  • from AI chat apps you connect to Appleseed, such as ChatGPT or Claude, when you ask them to build or change a plan; and
  • from service providers and referral partners when needed to operate the Service or complete a request.

4. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • create, save, update, and display your financial plans, projections, comparisons, and exports;
  • authenticate you, maintain your account, and provide customer support;
  • provide Pro features, process subscriptions, reconcile payment status, and prevent duplicate subscriptions;
  • connect accounts you authorize and request updated account information through Plaid;
  • generate AI-assisted explanations and product experiences;
  • send transactional messages, billing-related communications, requested magic links, product updates, and other communications consistent with your preferences;
  • analyze and improve performance, reliability, usability, and features;
  • detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, security incidents, and violations of our Terms;
  • comply with applicable legal, regulatory, accounting, and recordkeeping obligations; and
  • facilitate an adviser referral or other third-party interaction when you request or direct us to do so.

5. AI-Assisted Features

Certain features send portions of your plan or a structured summary of it to Google's Gemini API so that Google can process the request and return generated content. Google may process and temporarily log prompts and responses for service operation, safety, security, and legal compliance under its applicable terms. Do not treat AI-generated content as investment, tax, or legal advice, and review it for accuracy before relying on it.

If you connect Appleseed to an AI chat app such as ChatGPT or Claude, the plan details you share in that chat (for example ages, savings, income, spending, and your home) are sent to Appleseed through the connection so we can build and run your plan, and the results are sent back to that chat app. Appleseed receives only what the chat app sends for your plan, not the rest of your conversation. The chat app's provider handles your conversation under its own privacy policy and terms. A plan started in a chat is saved in Appleseed behind a private link; anyone with that link can open the plan, so share it only with people you trust. Opening the link and signing in moves the plan into your account.

6. How We Disclose Information

We may disclose information in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers: We use providers that support cloud hosting, authentication, payments, financial-account connectivity, AI processing, analytics, email, security, and customer support. These include Google Cloud and Firebase, Stripe, Plaid, Google's Gemini API, PostHog, and email-delivery providers. They receive information needed to perform services for us and process it under their own terms or agreements with us.
  • Investment adviser referrals: If you request an adviser introduction, Appleseed Advisory, LLC may disclose the contact and financial-profile information described to you in the referral flow to the selected third-party registered investment adviser. That adviser's privacy policy applies to its subsequent use of the information.
  • Between our affiliates: Appleseed Technologies LLC and Appleseed Advisory, LLC may share information with each other as needed to operate their respective portions of the Service, including when you request an investment adviser referral.
  • Legal and protective purposes: We may disclose information when we reasonably believe it is necessary to comply with law or legal process; meet regulatory obligations; protect the rights, safety, and security of users, Appleseed, or others; or investigate fraud or abuse.
  • Business transactions: Information may be disclosed as part of a financing, audit, reorganization, merger, acquisition, sale of assets, or similar transaction, subject to appropriate protections.
  • At your direction: We may disclose information when you ask us to or otherwise provide consent.

7. Sale and Advertising

We do not sell or rent linked financial-account information or payment-card data. We do not disclose either type of information for third-party targeted advertising. We may use analytics and advertising services to understand visits to the Service and the effectiveness of our own marketing; those services may collect device, cookie, attribution, and usage information under their applicable privacy policies.

If you request an investment adviser referral, Appleseed Advisory, LLC may disclose the contact and financial-profile information described in the referral flow to a selected adviser and may receive compensation for that referral. Appleseed Technologies LLC may earn compensation when you follow certain affiliate links. Those arrangements are described where applicable and do not involve disclosing your linked financial-account information or payment-card data.

8. Plaid and Linked Accounts

Linking an account is optional. Plaid provides the account-linking interface and handles the authentication flow with your financial institution. By linking an account, you direct Plaid and the institution to provide the selected account information to Appleseed. Plaid's handling of information is also governed by the Plaid End User Privacy Policy.

We encrypt Plaid access tokens before storing them. We use a token only to request information for the connection you authorized. Updates may occur when you sign in, request a refresh, reconnect an account, or otherwise use a feature that needs current information. Linked-account information may be delayed, incomplete, unavailable, or different from your financial institution's records, so you should verify important information directly with the institution.

You may disconnect an institution through the Service. When you do, we ask Plaid to invalidate the connection and stop requesting new information through it. We may retain limited connection records or previously incorporated plan information where reasonably necessary for security, dispute resolution, legal or regulatory obligations, or other purposes described in this Policy.

If you send a partner invite link, the person who opens it can connect their own accounts through Plaid to your plan; their account information is then stored and used as described in this section, and the link cannot be used to view your plan.

9. Stripe and Subscription Billing

Appleseed Technologies LLC uses Stripe to process Pro checkout, recurring subscription charges, invoices, payment-method updates, and billing management. Stripe's use of billing and payment information is governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy. We do not directly receive or store your full payment-card number or card security code. Appleseed Technologies LLC uses Stripe-provided identifiers and status information to provide or remove Pro access, assist with billing, prevent duplicate subscriptions, and maintain transaction records.

10. Data Retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service, maintain your account, complete transactions, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, protect the Service, and satisfy legal, regulatory, tax, accounting, and recordkeeping obligations. Retention periods vary based on the type of information and why we use it. When information is no longer reasonably needed, we may delete or de-identify it. Backup copies may remain for a limited period before being overwritten.

11. Data Security

We use commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information, including encryption in transit and at rest. Plaid access tokens receive additional application-level encryption before storage. No system is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee that information will never be accessed, used, or disclosed without authorization.

12. Your Choices and Privacy Rights

  • Plan information: You can review and update much of your plan information in the Service.
  • Linked accounts: You can disconnect a linked institution from the assets area. You may also be able to manage permissions through your financial institution or Plaid.
  • Email preferences: You can unsubscribe from non-transactional emails using the link in those messages. We may still send messages needed to operate your account, complete transactions, or address security.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: You can control some cookies through your browser or device. Blocking them may affect authentication or Service functionality.
  • Access, correction, and deletion: You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information by emailing support@appleseedplanner.com. We may need to verify your identity and may retain information where permitted or required by law. Subscription cancellation is governed by the Terms of Use and should be completed through billing settings or with help from support.

Depending on where you live and subject to applicable exceptions, you may have additional rights regarding your personal information, such as rights to know, access, correct, delete, or receive a portable copy of information, or to object to or limit certain processing. You may contact us to exercise an applicable right. We will not discriminate against you for making a privacy request.

13. Children

The Service is intended for adults and is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If you believe a person under 18 has provided information, contact us so we can review and address it.

14. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and change the “Last updated” date. We may provide additional notice when required by applicable law.
